I began working in the field of Mental Health in 2004, serving the female population. After three years, I decided to make this a career choice and studied at Springfield College to earn a master’s degree as a Mental Health Counselor. The first paid position I accepted was offered by a non-profit in Brandon, FL, where I served as a Group Facilitator and Counselor to adult and adolescent populations. In this position, I discovered my passion for counseling and helping others grow.
I am a CSWR with 15 years of clinical experience providing assessment and treatment to individuals, families, youth, and couples, and I have maintained a private practice since 2018.
Welcome! Creating a space where you feel safe, heard, and understood is the cornerstone of my clinical practice. I am Dr. Lyda HG. I am a National Board-Certified Counselor (NCC) and Licensed Professional Counselor to practice in Florida (LMHC). I obtained my PhD in Counseling at George Washington University and my master’s in clinical Mental Health at Villanova University.
I am a Catholic, bilingual, and bicultural clinical mental health counselor providing services in English and Spanish. I migrated to the United States 19 years ago as an international student. I bring a deep understanding of diverse lived experiences and the unique stressors related to acculturation and immigration. Also, I am an assistant professor, proudly teaching at the university level, to the next generation of master and doctoral students in Counseling.
I believe that trauma and challenging life transitions look different for everyone. It can come from a single overwhelming event, a series of painful experiences, or the quiet accumulation of stress, loss, or unmet needs over time. In my practice, I take a broad and compassionate view of trauma—one that honors your unique story and the ways you’ve learned to cope and survive. Whether you’re healing from past experiences, navigating a difficult life transition, or simply feeling stuck, therapy offers a space to begin making sense of what’s happened and reconnecting with yourself in new ways.
I enjoy working with individuals to emphasize their inner strengths, improve their relationships with others, and lead meaningful lives. My specialty areas include anxiety, anger control problems, trauma, stress management, and self-regulation.
I believe effective mental health care starts with feeling heard, respected, and understood. I take a collaborative, non-judgmental approach and work closely with you to understand your goals, concerns, and life context—not just your symptoms.
I value clear communication and transparency, so I’ll explain diagnoses, treatment options, and medications in a way that’s easy to understand. My goal is to help you feel confident and informed about your care, not rushed or overwhelmed.
I provide evidence-based medication management while considering the whole person—mental, emotional, and physical health. I welcome questions and encourage active participation in treatment decisions so we can create a plan that truly fits your needs.
Whether you’re seeking care for anxiety, depression, ADHD, mood disorders, or ongoing medication management, I aim to create a supportive, safe space where progress feels achievable and care feels personal.
My specialties include trauma, relationships, supervision, and medical issues. I will help you be more conscious of your thoughts, emotions, and body and thus reach your potential.
My previous education in biology and neuropsychology has provided me with knowledge that is invaluable, especially during trauma work. Because I find both Eastern and Western psychological practices useful, I integrate many tools and therapies into the sessions and tailor treatment to each individual.
