I love working with the LGBTQIA+ community and aim to provide affirming care to all identities.
I’m Kel Mathews, an LMFT with 11 years of experience helping individuals, families, and groups navigate life's challenges. I specialize in trauma, minority stress, crisis intervention, and working with diverse populations, including at-risk youth and the LGBTQ community. I’m currently pursuing a Doctorate in Psychology, deepening my expertise in systemic issues and mental health. My warm, affirming approach empowers clients to find strength and healing.
I’m a licensed clinical psychologist who works with people seeking a deeper, more meaningful relationship with themselves and with life. Many of the clients I support come in feeling overwhelmed, stuck, disconnected, or unsure how to move forward. Others are navigating major transitions, wrestling with identity questions, or carrying stress from demanding work and high-pressure expectations. Wherever you are, therapy with me is a place to slow down, pay attention, and rediscover the parts of you that want space, clarity, and care.
My approach is relational, somatic, and depth-oriented. I integrate ideas from relational depth psychology, somatic psychology, yoga, and non-dual contemplative traditions. At the heart of my work is the belief that healing happens through presence—listening to the body, the unconscious, and the subtle threads of meaning that shape our inner lives.
I completed my Doctorate in Clinical Psychology (PsyD) at the California Institute of Integral Studies (CIIS), a program known for integrating Western psychological science with Eastern contemplative practices and ancient earth-based wisdom. My clinical experience spans hospital-based care, community mental health, school settings, and private practice. These environments have allowed me to work with people across different ages, identities, and life situations.
I’ve also completed extensive post-graduate training in the Hakomi Method, a somatic, mindfulness-based therapeutic approach that helps uncover and transform the core patterns at the center of our lives.
If you’re looking for a therapist who brings warmth, curiosity, and a deep respect for your inner world, I would be honored to support you.
Never thought I'd be a psychologist, but here I am and I love it. I've worked in the music industry, with animals, at coffee shops and yes, Chuck E. Cheese. I have returned to my hometown in Hawaii and embrace the laid back lifestyle after years in the Los Angeles concrete jungle. Ask me anything!
(FYI~ I do not accept EAPs at this time.)
